I think Benjamin Franklin was an extraordinary man of his time. Not only to the United States of America, but to the rest of the world. He accomplished a lot and deserves credit for "changing things." After all, he did help write the Declaration of Independence and signed his life and fortune away so that we could be Independant states and live as free people!

Hi, Ofcorse my name is not Matlack i just dont think ppl should know my real name.I was watching National Treasure (movie) Thats about the founding fathers that signed the decleration of independance or something like that. It included that Benjamin Franklin wrote the Silence Dogood letters to leave a clue on how to find a treasure that history left behind, the clues are found in the declaration of independance that leads to the letters of Silence Dogood.Do you Benjamin Fraklin wrote the letters on porpuse to leave codes or clues for someone to figure out a pice of history that is forgotten. It might sound crazy but why would he write all those letters for nothing? if it was to be a hoax i would of just wrote a couple not that many. Then again Benjamin was young when he did this.

I believe that there could be a treasure hidden somewhere. I mean why would the freemasons go through all this trouble and Benjammin Franklin why would he write all those letters? I mean it would be so awesome if there was a treasure out there because I want to find it.

Hi.I read the comment above and wanted to answer it. I don't believe Ben Franklin wrote those letters for the "mason club".I think he wrote them for the pure enjoyed for his readers and himself. We learn from history he was never really a serious man, you can find this out by reading his almanacs. I sencerly dought he was a mason at the age of 15.But, I do agree about writting so few and just have more key letters in one note. There are such things as masons, but history states it never went to america, the kights traveled to Europe and scotland.

Last night I saw the movie " National Treasure", the one with the map on the back of the Declaration of Independance. I never would have thought Benjamin Franklin wrote letters to a news paper as someone else ( Silence Dogood ). When I saw the movie I thought it was just made up to make the map work. Then I looked up this site online and found out that it was true. Did Benjamin Franklin ever disguise himself as anyone else? Please let me know.

I have watched the movie national treasure 6 times already and im still trying to figure out how they could just make up something like that could this treasure actually exist. If you are going to put such american history and actual american artifacts something must have led someone into making this movie. i think someone should check out the Declaration to see if this is true or im just letting my mind wonder right now. Its just how could someone use the Dclaration,Sience Dogood letters, and the Liberty Bell to make such a treasure story.

I have dome quite a bit of research. Some directly using the national musiem of science. The silence Dogood letters are real. and yes if you take the letters and put them into ms word just copy and paste the exact spelling and words you will see purposly mispelled words and purposly upper cased words. and yes they do when placed in ascending order do say a specific set of sentences. That I assure you is not a hoax. Is what was said about freemasonry and the knights of templar true. Yes. As a freemason certain movies do reveal special messages. My Advice if you honestly are interested in finding answers to your questions. carefully watch shean connery movies and movies with the same people as in the movie National treasure. or ask a master mason for a petition for the degrees of freemasonry. Is the movie 100 percent accurate. I will not answer that.
