hi there

while aimlessly browsing youtube i came accross his video of a fairly over relaxed motorcyclist in india. but i cant decide if its real or fake. the obvious reason i see it as fake is that he is not touching the accelerator and so couldnt be maintaining a constant speed. ive also ridden a similar model of bike and they’re not the most stable when you let go of the handlebars. but the footage still looks convincing. whadaya think?

He sort of readjusts himself…and having been on the back of a motorcycle I know every little move can adjust the bike under you.  I am gonna say convincing fake.

If it is fake, then the question then becomes:  how is it fake, and how did they fake it?

There are plenty of ways to get around needing to hold the throttle.  I think it’s a real video—it’s not hard to balance when you’re moving—especially when it’s flat, smooth and mostly straight.  You don’t really keep centered in the lane by using the handlebars—it’s how you shift your weight.

I don’t think it’s fake (except that the throttle is locked somehow, or the idle is set high enough to sustain speed in that gear).

Without any doubt… real, and not really that big of a deal. #1 - Cruise control for motorcycles (throttle locks) are quite common and can be purchased easily. (Especially nice for long cruises.) #2 - Being a rider myself for 20+ years I can tell you that ALL turning on a motorcycle is done by shifts in weight and leaning the motorcycle itself. (That’s why the tires are rounded on the edges and not squared off like auto tires) You don’t turn your handlebars at all to turn while motoring, maybe if you’re pushing with foot power but not while you’re under power of the motor. #3 - I’ve seen this trick and many more like it done right before my eyes. (Myself I’m the wheelie specialist but one friend of mine is quite good at these tricks… laying down, riding backwards on the bike, even standing on the seat with hands in the air… so again I say, it’s not really that special of a feat, foolish maybe but not that special.
