I went and tried the game yesterday (membership is free) and it was really… well… not that cool. I guess I just don’t get it. Not only the fact that well, if I want to meet people I’ll hit a forum but also the idea of spending real money for online things really bothers me. Membership fees are one thing, but who wants to spend $5.00 for a t-shirt you can only wear online?

It’s just weird.

It’s not a game, when you get down to it.  It’s really a graphical social interaction site.  Apparently there is some kind of game aspect to it, but that constitutes probably less than 10% of its appeal.  Most people ‘play’ SL for the social aspects, much like a chat forum.

Thank God, I thought I was the only one in the “If I can’t have it in real life why should I spend my hard earned real cash on it?” camp…
