Hitman Scott Alan May jailed for ordering Andrew Heavens murder

HE paid a friend $4000, a Nintendo Game Boy and a scooter to shoot dead his drug dealing partner.

Scott Alan May, 28, will now pay the price for that crime by spending a substantial part of his life behind bars.

In the Supreme Court last week, May was sentenced to at least 27 years for ordering the murder of Andrew Heavens in what was described as “a crime perpetrated by greed”.

Justice Stephen Rothman said May, a supplier of heroin to Heavens, 31, became envious of the number of his clients when the pair were in the business of distributing drugs to the Sydney market in May 2003.

The court heard that May would supply heroin on a daily basis to Heavens, who would mix it with a cutting agent and on-sell it.

May asked Heavens on several occasions to fix him up with his clients, but after Heavens refused to hand over a mobile phone SIM card containing details, May ordered his murder.

The court heard May asked a friend, heroin user Ryan Burnes, “Will you go all the way for me?” in relation to killing Heavens.

May, 22 at the time he ordered the hit, gave Heavens one last chance to share his client base at a late-night meeting with Burnes present on May 2, 2003.

May supplied Burnes with a gun and arranged a signal. If he said, “I’m going back to the car to get my wallet”, it meant the deal had failed and Burnes was to shoot Heavens dead.

At the meeting, in the grounds of Callan Park at Rozelle, May gave the signal and left Burnes alone with Heavens. The young father-of-one’s body was found early the next day with three bullet wounds in his chest.

Burnes was paid $4000, a Nintendo Game Boy and a scooter, which he later pawned for drug money.

Burnes is serving a minimum sentence of 13 years and six months for his role in the crime.

Dressed in a grey suit and tie, May remained poker-faced when his lengthy sentence was handed down. In addition to 27 years, he was ordered to serve a further nine years on parole.

I’m just boggling at the Game Boy.. You can get one of those for less than fifty bucks, new. It’s all about the DS, now.

Granted, it’s entirely possible that the report was in error, and simply substituted ‘Game Boy’ when they heard ‘Handheld video game system with ‘Nintendo’ on it’. Even still, that’s insane.

Now, the scooter… I’m assuming one of those ‘Razor’ style ones… though if it was, perhaps, a Vespa I would have to be a bit more impressed.

Of course, we never accused those in the drug trade of making competant life choices..
