I’m just curious if anyone else here read/watches the Hellsing series.
Call it violent, call it ridiculous, call it whatever, but I am in love with it. And the reason I’m posting this is because I just got the fourth DVD(early, ha!) and I’m so happy I miiiiight explode.
Everyone who I’ve made read it has agreed, it’s freakin’ awesome. Just wanted to share the joy…
A fansite I rest my faith in lies here. Reviews of the dvds, screenshots, and other information is all there.
Of course youtube is full of pirated videos of them, not all in english, though…(stay away from the original anime, the producers screwed it up pretty badly)
Reading the books is always a good idea, they’re amazing.
Perhaps this isn’t a site full of the target demographic, but meh, whatever.
I have heard of it (Dark Horse, right?) but have never read and/or seen it. I don’t think they played the series up here in Canada, but I may have just missed at. I don’t pay much attention to TV these days, especially since my toddler pretty much determines all of the programming (thank god for my PVR).
So now I guess I have to go out and either get the DVDs or buy the manga, eh? I’ll probably start with the manga, since we never figured out how to hook the DVD player back up when we got our HDTV and home theatre system.
Yup, Dark Horse.
It hasn’t been on TV for a while, and when it was it was just the original anime…which was a huge disappointment. They started making it before the manga was over(there were only two volumes out for God sakes!), and had to actually make up a villian(and didn’t do a very good job at it). The creator of the anime didn’t like it, and no one thought they’d do anything else with animation. But in ‘05 they picked it up as a new series, and now it follows the manga…and looks way better.
If you wanna buy books/dvds I suggest discountanimedvd because they’re comparably cheap, get pre-orders out early, and some stuff can be a little hard to find in stores.
I found this on Veoh when I was watching Black Lagoon. I thought it looked interesting, but they only had like 3 episodes in English. The rest were in Japanese with korean or something subtitles!
It looked like an interesting story line. It kinda reminds me of an older cartoon about a vampire in Japan that was an assassin for the mob. (I can’t remember the name, of course!)
Ah well. No one around here will blame you for liking this, Jen. Compared to most of our choices, it’s pretty tame!
I’ve read up to the 6th book. It is hard to find around here, I have to go to a major book store like Barnes and Noble to get it. The local comic book store only has a limited stock, as much as I love the store itself. I need to just order it online. It is superviolent but I like the fact that one of the main and strongest characters is a woman and she is actually dressed.

ooohh wasn’t the 5th book horrifying? *shudder*
I mean, we know Alucard’s sadistic but that was…geeehhh
I have up to the 8th book, and I think there’s only one volume after that? I have all of the original animation, but I haven’t been looking for the OVAs because I didn’t think they were out here yet.

There’re 10 books in all, the ninth’s out in october.
The OVAs are out here up to four, and the fifth’s out in japan also in october. I dunno how many OVAs in all there will be…
