An Indian filmgoer rented out an entire cinema to disprove a director’s claim that his latest horror movie is so scary no one can watch it alone.
Pavin Ponanna, 30, booked all 227 seats at a Bangalore multiplex for an evening screening of Phoonk, the Pioneer newspaper reported.
He asked cinema staff to have a doctor on call, but emerged declaring: “I never felt scared, not even for a moment. I took just 10 minutes to settle down.”
Bollywood producer-director Ram Gopal Verma had challenged any fan to watch Phoonk - the story of a happy family suddenly beset by the evil forces of black magic - on their own.
Ponanna, an advertising professional, visited a temple to prepare for the experience, the Pioneer said, adding that the tickets had cost him 47,000 rupees ($A1,160).
I have watched scary movies & not thought they were scary. BUT, I was watching them in the day. I am not sure if watching them at night would have made a difference…but once you’ve seen the movie it’s not that scary anymore anyway.
Bollywood…well, they also are not allowed to show intimacy either (even if it’s implied by the plot). It appears Bollywood movies are not supposed to excite in ANY direction…..what’s the point? (I do enjoy watching the dancing though and the colors but as a steady diet, they put one into an hypnotic state of ‘coma’)
Dont sue the makers of scart movie…. because i loved superhero movie,Scary movie the “trilogy” *really 4 movies,Meet the spartans and the soon to be released disaster movie!
True. Bollywood movies are.. well.. different. They tend to consider three hours long as a good starting point, and they like to tell the *entire* story.. all sides of conflict, the history leading up to it, aftereffects, etc.
They are also prone to sudden musical dance numbers of mind-bending bizarreness.
Budgets are usually low, as are effects, though costuming can be lavish. Actors are often new to the experience, but given the way lines are usually delivered it’s not usually a problem.
Still, I’ like to see that guy sit through an american gorefest.
