It’s all about moderation.

Agreed, as I said, I don’t eat breakfast, lunch and supper. I eat when I feel I need too. I don’t need to know the nutrition info of what I am eating….

But I guess I can’t go off on this, I have been cooking my own meals since I was 8.

I reckon it was a broad statement, I guess some people are just un-aware of how bad foods can be without a little chart to tell them. My ego gets the best of me sometimes.

I don’t think it’s the 3 square meals that has caused a problem..I think it’s when and how we eat them.

And counting calories IS a good way to lose weight.  Because fat alone doesn’t determine what is good for you.  Calories takes into account the fat and sugar.  Which has been mentioned already.  After all, there is NO fat in a cup full of sugar…but would you eat an unlimited amount b/c it’s fat free??  No.  And when people look at an avocado they might think, Hmm…a vegetable type food…why would there be fat in that?  But there is.  It is a better fat than a serving of french fries…but when people see the guacamole dip, they see a pureed veggie with spices…rather than a potential calorie stealth attack.

Didn’t we just have an article here about how a guy lost a bunch of weight eating only at McDonalds?  He paid attention to the fat & calorie content of what he was eating.

I think having the calorie content would be nice…but it might not be helpful.  How many times do you get a “perfect” burger?  Sometimes I have gotten a very dry burger (maybe it sat in that warming drawer for a long time?) and other times grease is dripping out of it’s paper wrapping.  I guess those have just come off the stove?

Posted by yours truly.
He also lost the weight from eating the wraps and such.
Common sense that you’d loose weight eating those than gain weight eating burgers.

I have lost appx 15 lbs just these past two weeks by eating nothing BUT high fat foods. I’m not counting calories at all.  My standard daily menu consists of this:

Breakfast:

Two fried eggs with either 3-4 sausage links or however many pieces of bacon the guy in the cafeteria gives me (anywhere from 2-6, depending on whether his boss is hovering or not)

Lunch:

Either a chicken ceasar salad (sans croutons) or a chef salad with cheese, ham, turkey and hardboiled eggs. Caesar’s come standard with bacon here in canada.

My breakfast and lunch are pretty much the same thing every day, but dinner can vary. Here is a partial list of what I’ve had for dinner the past two weeks:

Steak with garlic or chive butter and cauliflower mashed with sour cream, butter and melted cheddar cheese

Chicken molé with mixed baby greens

Poached salmon on a bed of greens

Boursin stuffed bacon wrapped hamburgers with mixed greens.

Taco salad

This absolutely white trash casserole made out of ground beef, onion soup mix, mayonnaise, heavy cream, eggs and cheddar cheese. It was called White Castle Hamburger Pie. It was so disgusting, but grotesquely good at the same time. I haven’t decided if I’m going to make it again though.

For snacks/dessert.

Unsalted cashews
Jello with homemade whipped cream (splenda, not sugar)
Chocolate pudding made completely from scratch so I can control what goes in it (splenda instead of sugar)

A person can loose weight by watching portions and just being careful.  Mcdonalds is ok sometimes just don’t count on it all the time

Guys. Calories come main from three sources. Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Counting calories alone is not the answer. I’m not saying that reducing your caloric intake isn’t a good idea, but it’s more complicated than that.

The real answer is to eat foods which rank low on the glycemic index. I couldn’t possibly recommend eating like this enough - especially for diabetics. But eating low on the GI range is good and healthy for nearly everyone.

If you are wanting to lose weight while still eating delicious foods, please do yourself a favor and quit counting calories and look up the GI. There are some great books out there, like the New Glucose Revolution.

That’s fine if those foods fit your lifestyle and food choices.  But for someone who loves pasta and bread, counting calories is the better option.  Your option probably still entails fewer calories as it tends to keep your appetite at bay.

Eat what you want and exercise regularly.  It will speed up your metabolism and build muscle which burns more calories than fat does, even at rest.  Not to mention the other advantages of keeping yourself in shape.  As long as you are getting the required nutiritional values ti should be good.  Works for me and I’m pretty sure my diet would be considered anything but perfect.
