12 Awesome 80’s Movies That Are Perfect

I have seen all but one of these movies.  Is that good or bad?

And is it better or worse that I pretty much agree with each and every thing this guy says about the movies (I’ve seen)?

I’d exclude Repo Man and the GI: Joe movie.
I’ve vaguely heard of the Lost Boys, but never saw it.

Why did they not include Batman or The Abyss.

The Abyss totally deserves to be in that list.

I got others too, but I don’t wanna dig through my large VRC cassette tape collection. =)
Plus I know a few made in 79’ and 90’ that could be added, but guess we gotta be technical

Least not forget, Gremlins, Back to the Future, E.T., Porky’s (teenage cult classic), Ghost-busters…..

All these films have had sequels (cept ET) and are un-dying cult classics.

Back to the future is ment to be watch all 3 at a time.
Gremlines 2 vs Gremlins 1…. thought call, I liked them both.
E.T. =timeless classic, but the CGI remake was horrible. It changed my favourite seance. Where ET screams and moves his head up and down when confronting Drew Barrymore.
Porky’s 1 is a classic, Porky’s 2 was just horrid…..
Ghost-busters…. hard to compare the 2, I guess it all depends if you’ve seen one more than the other. 2 was kinda bad tho. But I still like watching both at this point.

Beverly Hills Cop is another good 1, it lead to sequels as well.

Rain Man oughta be add, tho, to be honest, I’ve never seen it, but it is reference a ton by comedians.

Roger Rabbit….. Why not Roger Rabbit? WB and Disney worked together on the character casting for it. A rare occasion, and it lead to semi-comic books. Plus, I know some people who still fantasied about Jessica Rabbit.

Airplane is also another good one, hard to laugh at these days. But it was a big break for Leslie Nielsen.
I love that guy, Spy Hard is one of my favourite movies ever. And the Naked Gun series are always fun to watch. Not too often you get to see O.J. Simpson being noble and saving babies flying through the air.  wink

Dracuala: Dead and Loving it., Another Nielsen classic I love…. I cannot get sick of it….
Considered a B movie, it is pure comedic gold. In grade nine I brought this into class for people to see…. everyone loved it.
It makes fun of the whole vampire story sooooooo well.

I conider Spy Hard next in line, it made fun of Bond, Get Smart, Jurassic Park, the WWF, and soooooooooo much more. I loved it.

I would have to remove Repo Man, Transformers, and Gi Joe and replace them with :

Better Off Dead
Risky Business
Porky’s

Also you could exchange Coming To America for Tradin Places! (A MUCH better film; uber-quoteable!) LOL

There are a couple I haven’t seen, and I only agree with a few of them - Ferris Bueller and The Princess Bride.  Some of the others were very good (Bill & Ted’s), but I can’t accept them being among the very best of movies.  And nobody mentions the first Terminator or, for the love of God, The Empire Strikes Back?!?

How about St. Elmo’s Fire or Wierd Science?

Is it just me, or were the 80’s THE decade for really good movies in general? hmmm

I mean, really!  You had fantastic showings in all genres and most of the scripts were original and in some cases groundbreaking.

(Now all it seems they are ‘making’ are remakes and horrid one-also’s…) downer

I haven’t seen a good movie on the big screen since I went to that horrid ‘House of 1000 Corpses’.  What a let down.

I’ve seen about half those…(I was a kid in the 80s…too young for some of them, and once I was old enough - didn’t care or remember to watch them).

I liked Top Gun, Ferris Bueller, Princess Bride, & Bill & Ted.
I thought Coming to America was stupid, ditto for Die Hard…

Top Gun?

Tom Cruise’s acting is so bad it makes my teeth hurt to watch him in anything.

To those of you saying, “What about such-and-such movie?“ I would like to point out that this is not a “top 12” list.  These movies aren’t ranked.  These are just 12 movies that this person considers “perfect” movies.

I happen to agree with his comments (except for Repo Man which is the one I haven’t seen), but that doesn’t mean that I think these are the only movies that could be included on the list (and also doesn’t mean that I agree with them being “perfect” despit agreeing with his comments about them).  I like most of the additional movies offered for suggestion here, too.  Not sure some of them could be called “perfect” (as subjective as that is), but I still like the movies.

There are just too many awesome movies from the 80s that I like I put high on a pedestal.  But it would take some serious thought for me to deem them “perfect”.

Possibly my number one “perfect” movie to add to this list would be Stand By Me.
