From the Parents Guide link on IMDB :

Sex & Nudity

Melissa has phone conversations with her patients about reproduction. Says “...she did not marry your penis.“

Violence & Gore

Non-extreme violence; characters get sucked into tornadoes, car wrecks, paraphanilia flying around hitting people due to extreme wind.

A young girls father is sucked into a tornado.

A car is sucked into a tornado and explodes.

A old lady’s house has been blown down by a twister. She is trapped underneath debris and has some bloody cuts and gashes.

Profanity

Profane language here and there. F-word does appear twice, once whispered loudly by Jo in the very beginning, and then yelled inarticulately (sounds like “aaagh!“) by Bill when he hits his head off of the back of his truck.

The s-word is said a few times

Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking

Mention of Jack Daniels during a story.

Frightening/Intense Scenes

All scenes involving twisters are intense due to character’s proximity to twisters.

I’m not seeing what you’re seeing, I suspect.

Ahhh.

Rated PG-13 for intense depiction of very bad weather.

Yes.  Seems about right to me.

Whaaa!

I live in North Texas - I’m the one who gets to whine about tornados.  You’re only allowed to whine about blizzards and um…  infestations of moose.

To be fair…it COULD scare CHILDREN under 13.  Have you ever BEEN through a tornado or hurricane?  It can be damn scary…and to relive it on TV might bring on PTSD-type flashbacks.  raspberry

As you can see from the Parents Guide the MPAA note is simply a one-liner synopsis.  Obviously the movie had more than just scary clouds in it.  I guess I’m missing the point here.

I found it humorous.  I’m guessing that was the point.

I remember a while ago a movie had an R rating due to “vampire violence”.

These rating explanations are frequently humorous if viewed in the right way.  Though we all know the MPAA has no sense of humor.

Ah.. yes.. Twister.. god I hate that movie…

Oh sure, it’s a decent movie and all.. but what I hate is that my stepmother watched it a LOT.. two or three times a week, sometimes two or three times a *day*, for about three months..

If she’s got some tornado fetish, I *REALLY* don’t wanna know about it.

Kids frightened by strong wind shouldn’t be allowed to watch movies. Until they stop being jessies.
