Captain Al, I’m not sure where the Foster’s you drink in Canada is made, but the Foster’s we drink here in the States is actually made in Canada. I guess that still makes it an “import”. What are the “good” beers in Oz, Smerk? I’d like to go there someday and want to know what to look for.
But as for Soviet technology, yes, they had always been behind the West in most respects. The CIA overstated Soviet military and industrial capacity by about four times consistently over a period of decades. The Soviets were better at using the technology they did have, though. The M-16 was a “technologically superior” weapon, but the AK-47 is still one of the best firearms available.
But in the race to the moon, the problem plagued N-1 rocket prevented the Soviets from even setting foot on it. The Soviets also would not be able to get their cosmonauts back to Earth even had they landed on it.
