I saw the new Narnia movie yesterday—I liked it a lot. Warning to long-time Narnia lovers (like me): It’s a LOT different from the book. I thought the changes were mostly necessary and justified, but I expect everybody won’t feel the same. But I enjoyed it. Looking forward to Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which might be my favorite, though it’s hard to pick just one favorite.

I liked it a lot more than the first one, which seemed much more shallow. This one had a human villain (well, several) and that made it much more interesting to me. The Christian symbolism was a little much, though.

Can’t wait for the next one!

I LOVE Dawn Treader—it starts with my favorite line in children’s literature: “There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.“ I have no idea how, or if, they can usefully employ that line in a movie, but I hope they can figure it out.

It’s interesting that you found the Christian symbolism a bit much, Snowy, since some Christians (not me but some) think the Christian message has been too watered down. It isn’t nearly as clear-cut as it is in the book, I can promise you that. So maybe that’s a sign that they managed to fall somewhere in the middle.

But yes, definitely looking forward to the next one.

I’m also excited that I actually managed to see a movie while it was still pretty new—I don’t manage that very often these days.

All these cool movies and I got stuck watching the cooking channel all weekend, broken only by the ever delightful change of pace that is American Gladiators.  downer

The cooking channel is fine, but American Gladiators? Oh, Chary, you poor dear…

The funny thing is that I thought it actually followed the book pretty well—with one or two exceptions that were really obvious.  I haven’t seen the first one, though I’d like to.

I read the books as a child and really enjoyed them, totally ignoring the Christian undertones, but I suppose that now that I’m watching them as a more religiously-aware person, I notice it more…

I would also love to see the Horse and His Boy onscreen, even if it is kind of racist. I loved that book.

That one and the Dawn Treader are my two favourites.

I liked the first movie, but I couldn’t read the book.  I’d like to see this one, especially if everyone says it’s a better movie.
