[quote author=“AFP”]100,000 hoax calls prompt plea from Dublin Zoo
Dublin Zoo’s switchboard is being jammed by callers fooled by hoax messages giving the zoo’s number and informing them of an “urgent message” and signed with names like G. Raffe, C. Lion, Rory Lyons and Anna Conda. An estimated 100,000 people have called over the last two weeks prompting zoo officials to appeal to the public not to be taken in by the hoax.
“This is proving to be a very serious waste of our time and resources,” said zoo marketing manager Veronica Crisp, “It might be kind of funny the first few times but we have lost our sense of humour now with calls coming in at a rate of about 13 a minute.”
To date, neither Ireland’s police nor the communications watchdog have been able to help.
“Paging, Mrs. Teeter. Will Mrs. Anne Teeter please report to the information kiosk.”
