Well, I recently watched two what I suppose are “end of Summer movies”: the films 9 and GI Joe.
9 was rather disappointing. The visual style was quite impressive, but to me the story and characters seemed to be. . .rather noninspired. And a lot of what happened in the movie seemed to be sort of stuck awkwardly into it. I’ve seen it once, and I have no inclination to watch it again.
GI Joe actually wasn’t bad. Hardly an epic moment in movie-making history, but entertaining enough in regards to what it was supposed to be (aside from the lead “hero” character, who was rather dull and had no screen presence). What I find somewhat amusing, though, is how a lot of critics seem to be picking at the movie for things that the movie actually did really well (such as the strange control system for a certain aircraft in the movie, which was actually very well thought out), while totally ignoring the things that they did completely wrong (why is it that movies are incapable of showing proper military convoy procedures?).
