I just read about this this morning.
It was quite a shock - he wasn’t the type of celebrity I thought this would happen to.

I heard it on the radio first thing this morning.  I seriously checked what date it was, just in case it was already April! wink

Latest news is that it was probably an overdose on sleeping pills - hopefully it was accidental.  Still, very sad to have happened at all.

Having successfully avoided all news mention of this I can say that I still have no idea who he is, or why anyone cared.  I gather he’s in the new Batman movie, but I haven’t heard of why anyone should know him right now.

He was in quite a few films in the last few years, Chary.

Probably his first “big” American role was in “10 Things I Hate About You.”  I actually have the DVD.  He was also in The Patriot…as one of Mel Gibson’s sons.

There was a movie he was currently filming…but I don’t know how far into it they were…no telling if it will be released with his character, or re-shot or just forgotten.

This sort of reminds of of the death of River Phoenix…with the suddenness of it.

He admitted to being on sleeping pills…and that he was taking more than the prescribed amount to sleep.

Me too!  I still don’t have it on DVD…but that’s b/c Jason never saw it & thinks it’s a “stupid teen movie”.  And I’m too stingey to part with my [own] money.

There is no such thing as an “accidental” overdose on sleeping pills really. You need a massive overdose (think: 50 to 100) to kill yourselve.

That would depend on a lot of things, actually.

They could be extra super-strong pills, and he accidentally took as many as he would if they were regular ones.  That’s doubtful, but a possibility.

He could have taken a whole handful of them, thinking that he really needed to get to sleep but would have a hard time doing it.

He could have had a lot of alcohol first, and then taken the pills.  The alcohol would boost the potency of the pills, especially if he was really drunk and forgot how many pills he’d already taken.

He was also in a movie that got a little bit of a buzz a while ago.  Brokeback Mountain.

Never saw it and probably never will, but from all reports I’ve heard from people he was excellent in it.

It was a shock to me, I never took him as a type to do what he did, if it was indeed an overdose. I LOVED him in 10 things I Hate About You. Damn, Hollywood lost a great actor.
