I have a new paper article on this. It was given to me from my Great Uncle who actualy had seen this fish. The news paper artical is from the Peoria Star Sept. 28th 1920 I was trying to find more about this too.

Well, as previously pointed out, the description is consistent with a number of filter feeding sharks. Without a good picture, a positive ID is unlikely.

A cross between a shark and a whale????  Whales are mammals, and sharks are fish—no crossing is possible, so how could something “look” like something that is impossible?

It sounds like it was fish, so it has NO real resemblance to a mammal.

I disagree… see “Whale-Shark.”

Although no actual crossing has occured it is still possible to “look” like something else even though you haven’t really crossed with it. Just because is sounds like a fish, or even actually is a fish, doesn’t mean that it can’t resemble a mammal… as referenced before… see “Whale-Shark.”

Lots of things look like the impossible… see “Michael Jackson.”

Zebra-fish...

Somehow, that just looks sort of fake.  Like somebody made a bad model based off of a whale shark.

From the notation below the pic, I assume that it was a real catch.  It does sort of resemble the basking shark, though sort of swelled.
