I just found this web site of Casper Schillings, I also followed a Fortean Times link. It seemd so interesting, almost too amazing to be true. Looks like it was :( I found this site when I looked up his name to see if I could find out more about him. I have to assume it is a hoax, something about it doesn’t sit right. Bummer !
I wasn’t quite certain. Until the second photograph surfaced. I noticed no pains were made to fit it into the fossil record (common ancestry of whales)...
I wrote a renown Paleontologist, specifically an expert on early whales questioning if it is a hoax or if not, what kind of Creature was that thing in the photos?
I have not received permission from the Professor to use their comments, so I will omit their name.
Here is what the Professor concluded:
Sharon, I saw a few of the pictures and am not convinced this is a
fossil. The part that is reconstructed as the skull appears to me to
be eroded (or carved) in sand- or mudstone. It is not clear that the
structures interpreted as fossil bone are distinct from the
surrounding sediment, and I strongly doubt that this is a skull.
Another photo, showing a man standing inside what appears to be a
ribcage does show that there are structures distinct from surrounding
sediment: long curved ones that are interpreted as ribs, and a thick
straight one that appears broken into pieces and is interpreted as the
vertebral column. From the photo, I am guessing that these are
burrows that were filled-in with hard sediment, and weathering caused
them to erode out. These elongate types of burrows will often break
into smaller segments, which might give the appearance of a vertebral
column. It is not possible to tell for sure on the basis of the
photos I saw, but I doubt that these are fossils.
Detailed shots of sediment and ‘fossil bone,’ showing unbroken
surfaces as well as places where the bone is broken would indicate
whether the claims are true and these do represent a fossil. I remain
very sceptical until I see such photos.
Gosh darn it I wish I could reveal the source of these comments.
