There was eight at once in Florida somewhere. Think around 1999/2000 maybe? I don’t know if they all survived.
Also, it’s recommended that women wait 2-4 weeks after giving birth to have sex again. Plus, ovulation would need to start again. If a woman is breastfeeding - she may not ovulate for weeks, months…or until she stops nursing totally.
WoHo don’t count on either of these. First, I never waited to have sex though the doctor said a week AND I got pregnant while nursing my oldest (both breasts at a time so I had a LOT of milk) because I believed that nursing would prevent me from getting pregnant right away. I continued to nurse even though I was pregnant by three months.
First, I said “recommended” for waiting on sex. Second, I said “may not” ovulate. I have heard of people who had sex again right away…it seems sort of gross to me, but I’m sure for others it’s not that bad. The amount of milk you have has little to do w/ ovulation as far as I know. Some women’s body simply restart ovulation right away, while other’s don’t. I rarely had excess milk, but I continued to have milk present for at least the 2 months following Jocelynn’s weaning. In those 2 months, my cycle had still not returned - which means I still wasn’t ovulating.
I wasn’t saying that it’s birth control (and even though it seemed to work [for me] the first time, I am not tempting fate a second time & have already discussed several birth control methods with my midwife)...just that if someone is trying to calculate how/when a woman would be able to conceive following the birth of a child…those are 2 things they should attempt to factor in. Some doctors are still recommending the 6-8 week rule for sex. It was quite a while before my c-section scar was healed up enough to even attempt sex. I was afraid of ripping everything open with too much movement.
My mother & her siblings are all 2 years apart. For her, nursing naturally spaced her children out. My siblings (not counting me) have 15 & 17 months between them b/c nursing did not space things out for my mother.

I came up with 55 kids. DAMN! But my calculating methods are less than, well, exact. Can anyone else come up with something interesting?
I just figured I’d mention it…my mother was pregnant 13 times total, and 3 times it was twins. She only had 4 live births. Two times w/ twins she went into early labor & delivered stillborns. The other time, she began to miscarry before she knew she was pregnant…but once she was at the hospital, the doctor examined everything coming out & determined it had been TWO babies. For the non-twin pregnancies, she simply miscarried. The ones BEFORE I was born (1983) involved miscarriage & it typically happened in her first trimester, b/f she ever realized or suspected she was pregnant. She was a truck driver in the Army & she thinks it may simply of been her activity that caused it. (Jumping up & down off of truck beds. Unloading very heavy things herself…etc.) Then she delivered myself, followed by 3 others (all alive & kicking today) and she had one additional pregnancy after my sister, but that miscarriage caused some sort of hemorrhage & she had to have a hysterectomy.
