I loved the original trilogy, even though the Ewoks made me kind of ill.

And this is exactly why I keep arguing that Indiana Jones IV is a bad idea, just as II and III were.

Thank god Sean Connery, at least, came to his senses.

I liked the Ewoks at first.  But as I’ve gotten older I have learned to like them less.  But I have no where near the loathing that a lot of people seem to have.

And I don’t consider the prequel trilogy as really having anything to do with Star Wars.  They are just three movies that all tie together on their own.  I do not let them befoul my love of the original trilogy.  I don’t associate the two together.

I liked the Ewoks as well, being only a kid.  But as adults we’re entitled to get upset over such a crappy merchandising gimmick.  My epiphany came when someone pointed out that everyone knows what an Ewok is yet the term was never used in Jedi.

You know (and I’ve said this before, but not here), I hate to admit this but: When I was kid, an in high school, and in college, the Star Wars trilogy was probably my favorite set of movies of all time. Lucas destroyed that franchise with the prequels so much that I can hardly go back and enjoy them originals.

The story was so much better when the past (Clone Wars, how Obi Wan and Anakin met when they were starfighters (which was retconned for the damn prequels), etc.) was a mystery. You got clues from different people (like Obi Wan dropping hints about how he met Luke’s father when they were both soldiers) but you didn’t know for sure. And it made the universe seem more real.

The prequel movies just made the series feel like a set of movies. The original trilogy almost felt like a documentary about what went on out there, a long time ago.

Big admission (for an Internet geek): I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars prequels, at least not in their entirety. I saw part of the first one (on TV), but I’ve never seen it all the way through, and this is kind of the reason why. I think my main reason was that as soon as I found out we were going to meet Darth Vader when he was a cute little kid, I thought to myself, “How will this help me enjoy the ‘real’ Star Wars movies?”

It’s kind of like what you’re saying, Stargazer (I think)—in the original movies, we got just enough hint about the early stuff that we knew all we needed to know. So what’s the point in belaboring the whole thing? More information isn’t necessarily better, not when you’re talking about a movie. Do we really need to know what Rick’s high school days were like in order to enjoy Casablanca?

So I’ve never seen them. I might one of these days. Then again, I might not.

It couldn’t hurt, nothing else has helped me enjoy that movie.

I’m only kidding, I’ve never even seen it to enjoy or hate it.

Yeah, I know I suck.  I haven’t even seen Citizen Kane.  They’re on my list, if I ever find anyone to watch them with.

Ooh, I’d do it, I’d do it! I watched Casablanca again just a few months back, but I haven’t seen Citizen Kane in a long time…

But finding a central meeting place would be a little tough.

I wouldn’t say I “decided” not to live there. It never really came up, as far as I can recall.
