Life begins BEFORE conception.  Two dead things can’t make a live thing.  The sperm and the egg are living cells.  Therefore, I see no question that life begins before/at conception.  The question is when the does soul/conciousness enter the life?  I find it hard to believe that the moment a sperm and egg unite that the susequent cell division is aware of itself.

Throughout her entire pregnancy, Charlotte and Zachary were never called “fetuses”.

are they identical twins? if so, the embryo split after conception (when the soul was imparted) so maybe they share 1 soul and each have half a soul.

Would they each get to enjoy only half of Heaven or Hell, depending on where God sends them?

Or perhaps, life began 4.4 billion years ago in some primordial sea and has spent all its time since spreading itself about a bit.

or what if two embryos fuse to form a Chimera, do they get a double soul and twice the heaven or hell?

No, fraternal.
Even if they were identical, they’d still each have one WHOLE soul.

The point is that either way is accepted as correct.

Yes, I know, it was VANS who said that foetus was incorrect (when referring to an unborn child).

And no, I NEVER said that the term ‘fetus’ was incorrect.
Don’t put words in my mouth.

Well, before you thank me, you should know that there were circumstances in which I referred to my daughter as a fetus. wink

If I was relaying information to family and friends after a check up I would say things like “the ultrasound showed the fetus measuring blah blah and it’s probably going to be a girl”

Emotionally however, she was always my baby smile

I totally understand what you’re saying, MC, and agree with you.
There are times when speaking medically that a baby is referred to as a fetus.
AND I’M NOT SAYING THAT THAT IS WRONG.

ALL I’M SAYING is that I would never refer to my unborn child as a fetus when NOT speaking medically.

But that would mean the sperm and the egg each had a WHOLE soul to begin with.  But then why don’t non-identical twins have doubled souls?  Is the extra soul wasted?

ARE WE KILLING SOULS BY NOT HAVING MORE TWINS??!?!?!!!?!!11!!  shock

And which soul does the child get, the sperm soul or the egg soul?  I guess we now know where ‘momma’s boys’ come from.

Umm…

VANS_Shoe_Of_Choice - 02 July 2007 02:51 PM

They didn’t say that she and her unborn baby were found dead, it was her and her unborn fetus. [...] ANYONE would know that at 9 months, it’s no longer a FETUS.

So I forgot to mention that that was my opinion. Sue me.

Well, yes, just about everything posted here is somebody’s opinion. I just included a definition of the word foetus to show that the probable reason they used the work “foetus” to refer to the unborn child is because it is a perfectly correct term to use.

Of course, they shouldn’t have said “unborn foetus”, it’s a pleonasm.
