It is definitely worth renting and watching, I watched it so long ago, did not absorb too many of the nuances, stoned, no doubt. I re-rented it a few months ago and it was incredibly great to watch (and follow........marijuana really does not enhance deep thinking, I suppose......it was a much better movie the second time, with my full attention devoted to it).
Dan the amazing drug-free person, which, for me is quite an achievement
Of course, these are the same people who voted 2001: A Space Odessey and Apocalypse Now into the list. . .that makes me wonder about their critical abilities. . .
I never saw it...it can’t have been THAT great. Whenever I have picked up the movie at the video store & read the back blurb...it just doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.

Personally, I would have arranged that list a lot differently. . .although a fair number of those movies I haven’t actually watched, so I can’t really say where I would put them.
Since I have nothing better to do while I wait for various web pages to open, I’ve decided to create my own ranking of those movies on the AFI’s list. So, for those of you who care (all one and three-fourths of you out there), here is

Movies that I’ve seen, but don’t remember much about them:
1. “Citizen Kane,” 1941.
2. “Singin’ in the Rain,” 1952.
3. “Vertigo,” 1958.
4. “Cabaret,” 1972.
5. “Duck Soup,” 1933.
6. “Sunset Blvd.”, 1950.
7. “Intolerance,” 1916.
Movies that I started to watch, but got tired of and never finished:
1. “The French Connection,” 1971.
2. “Pulp Fiction,” 1994.
3. “A Clockwork Orange,” 1971.
The rest of those movies on the list I’ve never watched, so I don’t know where they would go on my list. Obviously they must not be any good, though, if I haven’t watched them.
I’ve seen quite a few of those movies, and they’re not as good as they’re supposed to be. People who treat movies like the highest form of art get on my nerves discussing them. “Oh, the artistic merits of Citizen Kane are very post-blahdeblah”. Piss off, it’s a waste of 2 hours of my life I could have spent watching Ghostbusters.

Here, here! I couldn’t agree with you more!
I enjoy the occasional artsy film, but I hate people who criticize others for enjoying some “no-brainer” films. (I use the term “no-brainer” in the loosest sense-- there’s really nothing more subjective than what a “good” or “smart” movie is) I like what I like, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
