Might be more impressive
if they also had the original
photos so people could compare
them

Smerk the cutest dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In Western Australi

Little Accipiter loved that girl enough
He told her jokes and crazy facts
And other forum stuff

Smerk the cutest dragon:
Traveled cross the sea,
To hunt her prey in foriegn lands,
And snuggle with Acci!

Smerk the cutest dragon
Is getting married now they say
Though little Accipiter
Has yet to name the day.

If you click on the word “Original” beneath each picture, it will show the original photo.

And since when did Lego make semiautomatic pistols and grenades?

Wasn’t the one with the man standing on one of the twin towers with the jet plane closing in, just a photo shopped picture?

I’m sure there are, but frankly one hurricane looks much like another.  Lots of things being blown away and lots of rain.

I like to think I’ve got a pretty good sense of humor, but you know, there’s something really, really wrong about some of those Lego photos. Are they supposed to be funny? Some of them are. Are they supposed to be art? Dunno.

All I can say is that the recreation showing the smiling little Lego man dying like a loyalist soldier (edited—I mentioned the wrong war earlier) is just really disturbing, but the one of the Vietnamese officer shooting the prisoner, both of them smiling their little Lego-man smiles…

It’s just not right. Yeah, it know it’s supposed to be a joke or art or something, but it’s just not right. Why not little Lego men in a concentration camp? Or piled up like bodies about to be thrown into a mass grave? Or a little Lego man running shrieking away from a Napalm attack? Or dressed in a monk’s robe and self-immolating, the flames flickering around a Lego-man smile?

The original photos were and are disturbing too, of course, but for different reasons. They captured moments in time—emotions—and those were some genuinely and naturally disturbing moments and emotions. But the Lego photos…brrrrrrrrrrr…..

I am officially creeped out.

Not with all the people gathering at the Convention Center and the Super Dome.

The site mentioned at the beginning of this thread, the “World’s Most Famous Photos” site, predates Katrina, Magnoire, as do all or nearly all of the photos. I understand they are still adding photos—that was the intention, anyway—so if there’s nothing there now (I haven’t checked very thoroughly), no doubt there will be.

Ah! I did not notice that, me!
Thank you!

Also, I don’t think that there was any one iconic photograph that really captured peoples’ imagination regarding Katrina.  Show a lot of people gathered at the Convention Centre and you might have some people recognise it for what it is, but many won’t.  And even those people who do realise what it is will be recognising the event that was photographed, not the photograph itself.  The website isn’t about famous events that happened to be photographed, remember, but about the photographs themselves that are famous.
