I like to think I’ve got a pretty good sense of humor, but you know, there’s something really, really wrong about some of those Lego photos. Are they supposed to be funny? Some of them are. Are they supposed to be art? Dunno.
All I can say is that the recreation showing the smiling little Lego man dying like a loyalist soldier (edited—I mentioned the wrong war earlier) is just really disturbing, but the one of the Vietnamese officer shooting the prisoner, both of them smiling their little Lego-man smiles…
It’s just not right. Yeah, it know it’s supposed to be a joke or art or something, but it’s just not right. Why not little Lego men in a concentration camp? Or piled up like bodies about to be thrown into a mass grave? Or a little Lego man running shrieking away from a Napalm attack? Or dressed in a monk’s robe and self-immolating, the flames flickering around a Lego-man smile?
The original photos were and are disturbing too, of course, but for different reasons. They captured moments in time—emotions—and those were some genuinely and naturally disturbing moments and emotions. But the Lego photos…brrrrrrrrrrr…..
I am officially creeped out.
