Okay, yeah, I know, I always do this, but anyway:

(We subscribe to NetFlix, a great source of lots and lots of obscure DVD movies.)  We watched ‘Citizen Kane’ the other night, and what a great movie!

Well, great, except:

there were no bare breasts
there were no love scenes
there were no hacked-up bodies
there were no high-speed car chases
Lindsay Lohan was not in it

Nevertheless, it was incredible to watch, and I guess, in the minds of many critics, it remains the best movie ever made (in terms of content and art and originality and all that)

I have yet to see it.  Sad, that.  Especially since I do like old movies.  I guess I’m just expecting too much going into it, and it will never match my expectations.

As Peter Griffin said in Family Guy: “It’s a sled. It’s a sled he had as a kid. There. I’ve saved you two long, boobless hours.“

If I want to see black and white, give me the Marx Brothers tongue wink

A great movie. Social criticism at its best.

Chary, I know the syndrome, suffer it myself from time-to-time, but the movie is absolutely worth it.  To play it safe, do what my wife and I do:  have a back-up comedy, just in case.

We tried ‘Macbeth’  a few weeks ago, the 1950 version, and gave up.

And yep, the Marx Brothers are great, we have rewatched all of them, although I do think they were better back in my marijuana period.  W C Fields, too.

I used to get a lot of old movies when I worked at the video store…but I don’t really rent anymore.  I do watch AMC & Turner Classic movies when I get a chance.

I am glad I got to watch the Snake Pit I think it was called, w/ Olivia Dehavilland…(sp?)  I had heard about it a few times, or it had been referenced in another movie I watched…so I finally saw it & it was really good.

Ooh, that reminds me that I need to go through the next week of Turner Classics and tag things for recording.  I’ve forgotten about it for over a month now.  No telling what I’ve missed.  I love that channel, and was very happy to have finally seen the beginning of Failsafe, after having seen the last 4/5 about five times now.

And I think there is going to be some special (not on TCM) about the top 100 films of all time…I always like to tune in to see WHY someone thinks those movies are “top” above others.
