I didn’t recognize the name so I just looked him up. Big shock: Self important rock star. Even less shocking: Was in Rage Against the Machine.

I love how in that quote above he wrote “you or I“.  This poor little multi-millionare, Harvard graduate, rock star. You know he just feels the pain of the working man.

So I can just type anything and it will show up here?

There’s nothing new or odd about restricting travel to hostile countries.  I’m not sure why this is such a surprise to you.  We may not be engaged in continuous military activities against certain countries, like North Korea, but we may still be considering them belligerents and thus don’t want any aid going to them through private citizens.

And note that travel isn’t prohibited, it’s restricted.  That means we can’t just fly to Cuba on vacation (and spend tourist dollars there), but we can apply for permits to travel for family or humanitarian reasons.  This would even apply to North Korea if they didn’t automatically forbid all US/US Allies from crossing their borders.

The issue with Moore is that he failed to receive approval before going.  Not that he was likely to get it, but that doesn’t make his actions any less illegal.

I went to Bosnia in November of 2004. At the time there was a warning for Americans thinking of going. I wasn’t restricted or prohibited, just advised not to go.

Unless I travled there illegally by accident…

I find it funny that Tom Morrello lived the American Dream and the machine that he raged against was the same dream that paid for all the CD and concerts that made him and his band millionaires so they didn’t have to suffer if they didn’t work.

Total run on sentence but this isn’t English class.

The ‘machine’ is the government. The US government didnt pay for the dream he was living. If anything it took some of the dream away (money). I dont nessicarly see eye to eye with RATM but I dont think they are hypocrites for making money.

I know. The problem I have is the machine in a lot of people’s eyes has become capitalism in general. John Edwards just did a speech on poverty and charged $55,000 for the speech.  I’m just starting to want to give up with society as it is with all the hypocritical people in this world.

I used to love RATM and i do like audioslave.

RATM are socialist, that’s where I don’t see eye to eye with them. I love that they cause a stir at political events, I just don’t like why they are causing it.

Michael Moore directed there “Sleep now in the Fire” video at the DNC.

RATM was represented by Sony BMG Music.  Sony BMG Music is an RIAA member.  The RIAA is working hand in hand with the US government.  The RIAA seems to have the right to collect royalties for any and all recorded internet broadcasts in this country, whether they represent the band or not.  This means that if you write a song, perform that song, record that song, and broadcast that recording over the internet in America you owe the RIAA royalties.  You can then apply to the RIAA to recover those royalties from them.  The US government gave them these rights in return for large campaign donations.  I don’t believe this has been challenged in court yet.

Tell me again the part about how the government didn’t pay for the dream he was living, that was priceless.

The country of Beasjt and me never prohibited anybody from travelling to any country. Even those with hostile intent towards us, e.g. the Soviet Union and its satellite states during the cold war (I have been in the former DDR myself when it was still in the hands of Honecker and consorts). That is the point Beasjt is making. While our government may say travel to certain places (e.g. warzones) is at your own risk (meaning your insurance will not pay up if you are killed or injured) and may prohibit export of certain things to certain countries, it never does prohibit travel itself. So yes, Beasjt is right, we Dutch are more free than US citizens in our rights to go where we want and see for ourselves.

In fact Cuba is a very popular holliday destination here (because it is cheap). My brother went on honeymoon there.

We bought the CDs, if we didn’t buy them they wouldn’t have a record deal. RATM are revolutionary socialist, they are “raging against” Capitolism. Yes the market gave them money, but it was because people bought their merchandise.

So ‘raging’ against something then turning around and taking advantage of that exact same thing to become rich isn’t hypocritical?
