Funny thing about that is that C.S. Lewis is considered a Christian writer. That’s why his books were in the library of the Baptist school I went to, but Oz books were banned.
I read the Wizard of Oz when I was in the 4th or 5th grade…I was surprised we were allowed to read it, b/c of the head-chopping thing.
My 4th grade teacher was all into the WW2 holocaust for some reason….she showed us this 6 hour documentary (over a few days) about it. I heard later that some parents really got upset about it. But on our reading list that year was “Number the Stars” by Lois Lowry I think…about a girl & her family who were helped out of Germany by their neighbors.
