Actually, it does cost most of them money, because most of them go to internet cafes to do their work.

Some of these 419 scams are about more than just money.  If they can get their hands on your personal information ID theft can be very profitable.  The information can be sold for use in passports, drivers licenses and other such purposes (imagine this, a criminal commits a crime, uses you ID when he is caught, gets out on bail, runs and the next thing you know the law is knocking on your door).  Any bank account information can be used to drain the persons account, set up credit card accounts, get loans, etc.  The ID theft is the worst, it take years and tons of money to clear things up.  These guys deserved to be staked out nekid next to an ant hill.

It would be better if the person that they wanted the money from actually HAD IT!

Auxilium meum a Domino

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures
He leadeth me beside the still waters
He restoreth my soul

He leadeth me
in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake
Yea, though I wal through the valley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil, for thou art with me
Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me

Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies
