I have never used these ones, but…

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Off-the-wall reasons for calling off sick are on the rise as U.S. workers are increasingly willing to blame everything from wet cement and snakes to ghosts and a higher power to get a day off from work, according to a survey released on Tuesday.

This year, 43 percent of U.S. workers called in sick when they felt fine, up from 35 percent that did so last year, the survey of 2,450 employees from CareerBuilder.com showed.

Reasons not to show up for work ranged from: “I was too drunk to drive to work” to “I forgot I was getting married today.” One employee who did not believe in alarm clocks told the boss that “God didn’t wake me.”

The survey, which also polled 875 hiring managers, showed the most popular day to make up an excuse was Wednesday, while hiring managers said they were more suspicious of workers who called off sick on Mondays and Fridays.

Still, no matter how good the excuse, it won’t always work. Nearly one-quarter of hiring managers surveyed said they had fired an employee for missing work without a legitimate reason.

I really only call off when I’m sick…or if Jocelynn is sick.  Excuses I have given for not coming in?  I just didn’t want to, I wasn’t feeling well, I needed a day to rest…

We have this thing called, ahem, an ATTENDANCE POLICY.  As long as I don’t have more than 9 absences in a rolling 12months, I should be fine.

I called in sick this monday (see off-topic thread for Tuesday, he he he) because i had a raging hangover, and an attractive bed partner. Two VERY good reasons….!

I’m quite good at attendance, I’ve apparently only had about 15 days off shcool since i started high school over 4 years ago, which includes the week I took off when I reacted badly to our BCG injection. Bleurgh. I hate injections.

I recall running across a discussion once, on some forum, about whether or not it’s wrong to lie when you call in. Many people believed that, no matter how embarassing the reason, you should always tell the truth. Until one woman chimed in with the reason her husband had called in once.

They were having trouble with the kitchen sink drain, and it stopped up while husband was in the shower. Wife nagged him in to “doing something,” so he comes to the kitchen, dripping wet and naked, and starts working under the sink. The cat decided that any and all dangly bits were fair game as play toys. He missed work to get an xray of his head, after cracking skull on the underside of the sink.

I’m not an idiot. I just play one in a roleplaying game.
