KING TO LAY WREATH IN COMMEMORATION OF MOSHOESHOE’S DAY
In marking the commemoration of Moshoeshoe’s day, King Letsie III will light a ceremonial torch and lay wreaths on the Moshoeshoe I statue during a commemoration ceremony to be held at the Moshoeshoe I monument in Maseru on Tuesday next week.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has therefore called on the Basotho nation to attend the ceremony in large numbers to celebrate the up-coming Moshoeshoe’s day commemorations countrywide. According to a press release issued by the Ministry on Wednesday, the ministry has urged all the Basotho to go to the commemoration ceremonies in traditional attire to make the event more cultural.
It is expected that principal chiefs, government officials, teachers and students from different schools will be present at the main event in Maseru. King Letsie III will be accompanied by the three principal chiefs of Bataung, Makhoakhoa and Batlokoa in laying the wreaths at his great grandfather’s statue.
Moshoeshoe ‘s day is commemorated nationally on March 11, the day on which the founder of the Basotho nation Moshoeshoe I died in 1870, as his exact birth date is not known. The day will be a public holiday
