Most astronomers think that the universe is infinite, but recent measurements suggest that it could be finite and relatively small. Indeed, as Jean-Pierre Luminet describes, we could be living in an exotic universe shaped rather like a football

Burning at the steak, Stephen?  Were you feeling a bit hungry when you wrote that post?

It’s an interesting idea that if we manage to develop space travel to such an extent that travelling across the universe is possible, that if we managed to travel for long enough in a straight line we could end up back where we started from!
