First edition rules. Second edition sucks. Third edition is better, but still not the game of my youth.
If you loved AD&D you should try Hackmaster. It’s based on the same rules, only about 10 times more complicated.
Of course, it’s partly gaming that has caused this whole illiterate subculture to spawn in the first place.
