When I was at 5 Below (A line of teen-oriented stores where everything costs 5 dollars or less for reference) they had these “magic bean” plants. They came in a soda can type setup, just add water and a plant would grow.
The “magic” part was that there was a fortune etched on the cotyledon of the plant, it would show up when the plant put forth its first shoots.

These guys will actually print a custom message on the bean for company specifics (hmm.. a museum of hoaxes bean plant?)
I’d like to know how they do that… writing on the inside of a bean before it germinates… Im assuming its something along the line of what Llama was talking about with the acid on t he hardboiled eggs… but one would think that would kill the plant?
