Agatha Christie: both Dutch and English

English and American authors, I prefer to read in the original language

In fact, I tend to like specific books rather than authors….

such as:

The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway
Bandoeng-Bandung by F. Springer
Het verboden rijk by J. Slauerhoff
De herberg met het hoefijzer by A. Den Doolaard
De stille kracht by Louis Couperus

to name a few…

My all-time favourite is Jack Whyte and his Dream of Eagles cycle.

I’m also hugely into mysteries right now:

Laurie R. King - both her Kate Martinelli books and Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes books
Arthur Conan Doyle
any book with AC Doyle as a character

Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth series)
David Eddings (his earlier work, his latest stuff is crap)
Lian Hearn (Otori)
Robin Hobb (Farseer and Tawny man trilogies)
J K Rowling

Oh, and there’s this guy, not too sure of you’ve heard of him, Alex Boese, who’s not too shabby either

I’ve read Jack Whyte a few times…I enjoyed it, but I think I stopped reading b/c I couldn’t find all the books in the Camulod series…maybe.  Who knows it’s been about 10 years.

I mostly read books that are interesting (& I do judge books by their covers…or at least the little blurb on the cover…)

If I liked a book, I might search for more from that author…but in some instances, that was a big mistake.

I like Patricia McKillip - I’ve read quite a few of her books.
Jane Yolen - both adult & young adult titles…
Margaret Weis - she has paired with another writer on a series I enjoyed.

It really depends.  Except for the above…you would only find the same author twice by accident in my book collection….which is not as neat & pretty as LaMa’s.  It’s in plastic bins.

Practically identical to Boo’s, with the addition of Iain Banks, he is the most impressive author i’ve ever read, so creative.

Phil Farmer is my all time favorite author.  I always said I’d knock Brad Pitt down to get a chance to meet Mr. Farmer, but luckily I didn’t have too (rats…).

I went to a SciFi convention where he was guest of honor and got to meet and speak to him and sit in on his seminars and have him autograph my books.  It was a very good experience to be in the presence of someone who has given me so many hours of pleasure and escape.  Start with Riverworld, but don’t try and go through the whole series at once….

I once heard Robert Heinlein got his start writing for romance and confession magazines, so I took a que from him and gave it a shot myself.  I made between $300.00 and $500.00 a story and it really was easy money considering I had so much fun doing it.  I’m thinking of becoming the next Jackie Collins.  I’m going in for the lobotomy next week.  (No offense, Jackie, if you happen to be reading this….)
