hey, guys. I was just watching the ‘V for Vendetta’ trailer. it looks really good; rather like some odd hybrid of The Mask of Zorro, Batman Begins, 1984, and The Phantom of the Opera.
yikes.

Anyway

I know that the movie makers were allowed to film in parliment, but is it true that people are all freaked out about it coming out because ‘Code Name V’ is basically a glorified terrorist? Does anyone know about this? Have there ever been paper comics about this guy? Would love to know more.

my favorite quotes:

“People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.”

“Beneath this mask, there is more than flesh. There is an idea, Mr. Krane, and ideas are bulletproof”

“Remember, remember the 5th of November”

(anyone want to guess the premier date?)

It seems suitable that they’d release it on Guy Fawkes’, tho it’s labelled as “Coming Soon”, and in IMDB it’s still labelled as ‘in production’. For a movie this large (from the looks) they probably would have released the release date sooner to further get the hype up.

That said, it looks like it could be interesting.

Yep, more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_for_Vendetta

I actually had some of the comics in the 80s sometime, but god know where they’ve gone. Probably given away when I moved to the US, but it was neat enough. I did see some on eBay though, but you’re likely to pay a higher premium now that the movie is coming out.

You can also get a graphic novel from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0930289528/103-5377853-7355061?v=glance

Oh, and it looks like it’s being released on 4th of November, 2005.

Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman in the same movie. How cool is that?

<- has no idea what anyone is talking about.

Then again, I have been to about 3 movies in the last year - so I haven’t seen any previews or trailers/teasers.

Well, if I COULD see it, I would have watched it.  When did a google search, I only came up with comics.

If it were REALLY a terrorist, why wouldn’t he be referred to by his actual name.  We would need to know his name if any officials wanted him to be caught.  Everyone knows Osama, why not V?

V4V release has been pushed to March 17, 2006:

http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10844

I read all of the graphic novels back in the 1980’s. I thought they were really awesome.

They don’t know what V’s name is. From what I remember, he was a prisoner who escaped but was presumed dead. He was a persona non grata years later when the “action” takes place.

There were several graphic novels in this series. I am looking forward to this film, but something tells me that it is not possible to put all of the novels into one movie and still do the story justice. I think you would only get a whitewash out of it. I’m going to go see it, and I am excited about it, but I do have my reservations.

Here is the IMDB link:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0434409/

They are showing the 3/17/06 release date as well.
