Just once I’d like to see a church service done to the tune of The Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The Unitarians might be hip enough to pull it off. Maybe.

1: Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. If it does what it says, you should have no problem with this.
2: What proof will you accept that you are wrong? You ask us to change our mind, but we cannot change yours?
3: It is not our responsability to disprove your claims, but rather your responsability to prove them.
4. Personal testamonials are not proof.

What part of ‘meow’ don’t you understand?

You could always start your own church.  I am continually stunned by how many little churches start up here; little ones that rent space on Sundays in movie theaters or malls.  They put up little curb-side signs on Sunday mornings with the names they’ve given themselves, then retrieve the signs after their services are done.

Then put your knees inside,
Put your hands on your hips,

I work in planning enforcement and we have an influx of bizarrely named churches cropping up illegally in the UK, mainly from countries in Africa it would seem. They usually have names like “The redeemed church of Christ” or other such convoluted names. I can’t tell if they are just scams to further the preacher’s pocket or actual churches that just can’t find a decent venue, so set up in a random warehouse in the middle of London.

Further research shows that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redeemed_Christian_Church_of_God is a Nigerian church. Looking at the individual websites doesn’t change my view that it is principally set up for the money, not the saving of souls.

Church of God actually sponsors an endless line of churches that small groups construct.  I’ve seen a goodly number of them here.  If you do a google search you’ll find a goodly number that have survived for a year or more like:

Living Church of God
Olive Branch Church of God
Long Branch church of god churches
Spring Branch Church of God
Harman’s Branch Church of God

or

Great Lakes Conference, Churches of God :: Directory

World Mission Society Church of God
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Mission_Society_Church_of_God

A lot of people want their own churches or want to ‘pastor’ their own and Church of God is one that is more lenient in granting these small groups this kind of member option (I know this from both friends and family members who erect their own tiny groups).  I am uncertain why they don’t seek being part of larger churches….perhaps there are not enough openings for pastors?  Or perhaps they just want to be more in control?  A lot of these have very few members, sometimes not more than a dozen or even less.
