I think there is a thief going to my local supermarket. On two occasions, when I’ve gone to buy a dozen eggs, I’ve found one egg missing.
Apart from it being just as well I’m in the habit of checking my eggs before I buy them I have to wonder why somebody would go to a supermarket to just steal one egg. Maybe the police should stake out the local dry cleaners?
Or perhaps this is the work of a single individual who really doesn’t want to have to be stealing in the first place? (Else they would take the entire dozen)
It’s easier to hide one or two eggs in pockets rather than a full dozen. And taking them out of separate cartons reduces the chance they will be noticed or missed.
Solution of course is to simply transfer an egg or two from one carton to yours, leaving the donor ‘unlocked’, but not open so other buyers will notice.
The store likely knows of the problem already, but make sure to mention it anyway. It’ll help them isolate when the eggs are going missing.
So far I’ve just shown the affected cartons to a member of staff. Then I just grab another one to buy. I’ll be interested to know if they catch whoever is stealing them.
