What, you think that having a dragon looking after your money is a bad idea?  Especially one who actually works for an accountant…

I know I am coming late tot he discussion, but on the idea of where to settle, I have often thought that a re-designed oil platform out in international waters on some shallow shelf would be the way to go. (If one has the money to consider buying an island, buying a used or new oil rig and converting it to one’s own needs might even be cheaper.) Hydroponics, sea harvesting (even a few fishing boats) energy (solar/wind/wave) could all be accomplished for a very modest sum.  (Defense would also have to be built and considered, but there has never been a dearth of destructive implements available on the open market.)

As long as one didn’t produce too big a thorn in any nation’s hide they would most likely ignore the whole thing. Unless one happened to park the rig on top of an un-discovered diamond tube or somesuch.(Or as long as They didn’t find out about it….)

You’d have to be in ‘international waters’ and would have to be well fortified because there would be no ‘legal’ ally, no authorized law to assist since you would be ‘stateless’.  You would have to remain on international ground because you’d be an illegal alien in all other countries.

No matter how I count the facts, there is global law that must be somehow circumvented or legally faced in order to form a viable ‘union’. 

So I would either want to move off the globe completely, or form another, legal country (the oil rig only moves you from denser populations and since it isn’t permanent land, I’m unsure whether it would qualify for ‘country-hood’.) 

The only option would be to actively press, punch and force change to the governing methods of the country upon which we stand.  I am pretty sure that might mean a lot more than just voting on the few options given, but attacking the roots before poison flowers.

No Peter. You’d still be under the laws of whatever country you lived OR, if you’d become stateless (gave up citizenship), you’d be an illegal alien.

The idea is to have your own, new government….not be in a position where you’re running and hiding within the borders of another.
