I’ve normally been going to http://www.news.com.au but I find it’s getting annoying to read as somebody keeps trying to be funny with the news story titles. I might become a regular reader of a different Australian news web site as I’m sick of the clowning around on that web site.

But honestly, I thought Aussies were raised to sort of ‘clown around’ with words, descriptive phrasing and verbal imagery?

Yes we do clown around a bit with words but for me it gets to be too much to bear when it’s over used. I like to read the news for what it is, not for jokes.

BBC’s australian version?

I thought that you all just used the good ol’ bush telegraph to get your news!

This is the news page I use when I’m checking up on Nettie and Smerk, looking to see if they’ve been rampaging around or anything.

Why not just use a news site from a Northern Hemisphere country? And turn your monitor upside down while checking it?

Peter, also look to see if your local newspaper has it’s own website.  I primarily use The West Australian for news stuff, although I note that it’s largely in tandem with Yahoo news, too…

Thanks for the replies (although my laptop wont be the same if I turn it upside down). I think I must be showing my age with this. I’m sure the younger readers would appreciate the humour in the news stories. Although I’ve always been somewhat serious with these things even when I was younger.

I’ve been checking out The Age at http://www.theage.com.au/ as well as The Australian at http://www.theaustralian.com.au/ and sometimes The Herald Sun at http://www.heraldsun.com.au/. I find The Australian seems more interesting out of the 3.

I’m not into The Sydney Morning Herald http://www.smh.com.au/ as that’s a Sydney based newspaper. We people of Melbourne are much more sophisticated.

Looks like The Australian are going to start charging money soon for reading “premium content” on their web site. So I’ve just started reading www.news.com.au again as they don’t seem to be charging money anytime soon.

So far I haven’t come across that problem of the over use of humour that I I saw before on www.news.com.au. Hopefully that’s a good sign.

No but we do have coffee shops and restaurants that know how to make good coffees.

Although I have been known to stick a slice of lemon in my beer (depending on what I’m drinking)
