I remember years ago when a person was on a forum and made what is called a top post (i.e. putting their reply above the quoted post instead of below it) people would complain about that. I’ve found it doesn’t seem to draw any complaints now.

Have other people found that? Was the issue of top posting a real concern or was it was just a made up excuse for people to be control freaks?

Ironically I just found this page on why top posting is a bad thing.

The ironic thing being that page has white text on a black background. I’m glad the web is more civilised now.

I tend to only top post when linking to articles and then quoting them.  Otherwise I’m commenting on or answering somebody, so it seems natural to put the quote I’m referring to first so people understand the context of my comment.
