Consider the cheese curl, or the microwavable dinner, or beef jerky. These foods are not just tasty: They are scientifically optimized to be shelf-stable, perfectly consistent in taste from serving to serving, filling, addictive, savory, and cheap. Achieving all those goals requires more than a handful of pantry items

Nope, those ingredients say little or maybe a whole LOT about what you’re actually eating. I don’t typically eat any of those used in the quiz though.

I got six right
Not bad for pure guesswork.
I don’t think I eat any of the items listed.

Had 4 of those right. Would have had 2 more if I hadn’t moved off my initial guess.
And ate one of those products just within the last week.

I got all but two, myself. There’s certain logical processes that one can go through to identify them.

I only got two of them right. And I’ve eaten several of them, but I can tell I don’t really pay much attention to what’s in the stuff I eat.

Got five right…and that was mostly guessing, considering that there were several products which we don’t actually get here.

I got 5 right which I thought was pretty good considering that I have never heard of most of those products.

One of the wrong guesses is Fritos, which I’ve always found the ingredients list for amusing:
Corn. Corn oil. Salt.
Not a single preservative or artificial ingredient (ok, technically salt is both, but you know what I mean).

I got six correct. The giveaway on the cat chow was an ingredient called “animal digest”. I started making my own dog food weekly when I realized the quality of what we were feeding out pets. Even so called designer pet foods are just crap. Tonight my dogs had scrambled eggs with mixed vegetables. The myth that “dog food” is better for dogs than real food (please don’t say people food; food is food as long as you know what nutrition a species human or animal needs or needs to avoid) comes from a study from the 1960s that was funded by ... guess who? Dog food companies.

Cat chow was the easiest for me too
but it was the first ingrediant - Poultry by-product that I guessed
I spent ages trying to find decent food for my cats and all main line cat food
seems to have that in it
