Although I am wary of youtube vids, or stories of OBL pics (due to a report that some hackers were trying to hide viruses in them),
Looks like a legit ‘hoax’ story to me.

Could you please “flesh it out” a little for us? (Are you saying that you created a pic that was then taken as truth by a news source?)
