Ooh, cool!   Free comic books are always the best kind.

Sydney and I had a good time today. Anne had to work a half-day this morning so Sydney and I went out to breakfast. Then we ran some errands. We did the Kids’ Workshop at Home Depot and then some things we needed to finish to get ready for Mother’s Day.

When we finished it was just 10:00 and the comic book store didn’t open until 10:30. So we went and hit the other store (a general books/video game/music/movie store) doing free comic books. When we walked in I asked the lady where we went for the comics. She pointed us in the right direction and said the limit was 10 per person.Holy cow! I laughed and told her we weren’t planning on that many!

However, some other people there were. A mother and her two daughters, aged probably 15 and 16, were there. They were grabbing everything they could get their hands on. They stood in front of the entire shelf unit so no one else could get to the comics just taking whatever they saw. Several remarks along the lines of, “What’s this? I don’t even know what this is? Why would I want this comic? I don’t even know if I’d read it!” were made by them. They proceeded to grab all the comics anyway.

Really? You really need to take the free comics that you don’t even want? Just leave them for someone else who might actually want and enjoy them. It was quit disgusting.

Anyway, Sydney picked out 5 comics that were kid-oriented and I took a couple. Then we went over to the comic book store. Sydney got the limit of two there and I took one. They also have local comic artists there who do free drawings for the people today. They all have examples of their work out and they’re all excellent. One guy have his portfolio open to a great picture of Disney’s Rapunzel so Sydney asked for one of her. It’s a great picture he drew in about 10 minutes.

I bought a Twisted Toy Fare collection book (I buy one each year from there when we do the free comic books). And we went home. And we’re all ready for Mother’s Day!

Eh… some people feel the need to get ‘their fair share’, no matter what. Even more than, if they can get away with it.

As Tah said, Happy Mom’s Day to all and sundry!

I kinda spent today in a sleep-deprived coma due to the need for one of us adults to keep vigil over a sick grand-spawn.   (She has a terrible cough that just never seems to end. I informed my spawnling that she needs to take her spawnling into the lab for a proper diagnosis before her spawnling develops the ability/need to breath in an ammonia-based atmosphere.)

Other than that, I am currently preparing the table for ‘Make-Your-Own-Pizza-Bread’ for supper.

Fun should be had by all!!

OH!!   My son is home from playing in the middle east’s sandbox.  He gets about 2 weeks leave before he must go back.   He has planned a trip for himself and his girl to Las Vegas, which, because he is not yet 21, will prominently feature LOTS of shows, but NO gambling. (Hopefully.)  He got a really good deal on a 4 day package, and since he cannot gamble legally, they are going to go for the whole ‘entertainment perks’ package offered.   It ought to be fun!

Missed out again. Second year.

Oh well, perhaps next year!  (I already have a dresser drawer full of single-run/hardly known comics from series that were never picked up or only ran a dozen or so issues before being cancelled.  Fun stuff!!)
