In the video above, you can see three versions of a new illusion by Sung Ho-Kim at Rutgers University, New Jersey, that trick your brain into thinking circular patterns that shift across a screen are actually spinning. Make sure you are close to the screen to see the full effect.

I’m with Sharruma.  I tried tracking the image and I tried keeping my eyes centered.  At no point did it even hint that it was spinning, and usually I see these things fairly well.

If I track the center (or near-center) of the circle I get nothing. The illusion is stronger if I track the upper edge of the outer ring of lines.

It was kinda just random back and forth.  Some bits appeared to be “spinning” left to right, while others were going right to left, but I couldn’t get the whole image to go in the one direction.
