Go and see this eBay ad of a disgruntled eBay seller.

Sounds like they have a pretty good point.  Looks like Ebay is going to double the cost of auctions over 25 dollars. That is certainly something to be disgruntled over… wink

goodness— I mean wow?  That’s why I seldom sell anything on Ebay or any of the other sites actually.  I too get these e-mails but I knew no matter what was being said, in the end you always pay a lot to both list, show a photo-especially gallery because that’s what browsing prospects look for-and then the fee when it’s sold.  You do best if you are either a huge store, OR if you’re only selling 1-4 items.

Erik though, told me a while ago now, that Ebay was also attempting to eventually be ONLY storefronts and Buy-It-Now.  I know a lot of internet stores like Buy.com etc. list their overstocks, refurbished etc. inventory with Ebay.

What I’d like to know is how LaMa came upon this in the first place?  Listed in category:

  * Dolls & Bears >
  * Dolls >
  * Art Dolls-OOAK >
  * Babies

so LaMa, how did you find this?

and, ok, I have 1413 ebay auctions that have received feedback (though I’ve had more auctions than that) and I still can’t figure out what ‘FVF’ means…......would someone please enlighten me?

NOTE:  nevermind, it means final value fee hahaha!)

For those better at math than I am, I’m not sure if what the seller gives on their item description is exactly valid.  I just pulled up what Ebay’s final value fees are: http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/FeeUpdate2010.html#fpf

this is for STORE auctions

$0.01–$50.00     8.75% of the closing value

$50.01–$1,000.00   8.75% of the initial $50.00, plus 4.0% of the remaining closing value balance ($50.01–$1,000.00)

Equal to or over $1,000.01   8.75% of the initial $50.00, plus 4.0%
of the next $50.01–$1,000.00, plus 2.0% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01–closing value)

Of course it’s near enough to 9% and most items probably won’t go to the next selling price of $50 perhaps.

For regular auctions:

Standard Fees—Auction-style Listings
Starting Price   Insertion Fees
$0.01–$0.99   FREE!*
$1.00–$9.99   $0.25
$10.00–$24.99   $0.50
$25.00–$49.99   $0.75
$50.00–$199.99   $1.00
$200+    $2.00
Selling Price   Final Value Fee
Item not sold   No Fee
$0.01 and above   9% ($50 cap)
*Up to 100 each month

———————still looking around ebay.  Discovered that they are trying to lift the ‘selling’ standards much higher starting April 1st too.  If you look around the appropriate information pages it becomes more apparent why some fees have gone up.  Actually, it used to be that you had to pay for any listing even if it didn’t sell so when you equate those mandatory insertion fees along with the past final value fees, it comes out to very near the same.

http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/sellerstandards.html just a portion of this info page:

Can you provide some examples of unprofessional language and tone?
Here are a few examples unprofessional language and tone:

“Due to bad buyers on eBay, you must contact me prior to bidding or your bid will be cancelled and you will be reported to eBay!!”

“I have had so many bad transactions with zero Feedback buyers. So, if you are new, don’t bid!”

“I will leave negative Feedback for all non-paying bidders.”

“I am forced to use PayPal.”

What’s the purpose of the policy?
We know that as a seller, you want to provide smooth and satisfying transactions for all your customers. Clear guidelines and standards regarding professionalism on eBay will help you meet that goal. The new policy is designed to:

  * Ensure a professional shopping experience for buyers on all transactions
  * Clearly outline for sellers what aspects of the transaction they are accountable for
  * Help sellers take responsibility for their customer satisfaction

At the end of the day they offer a service which they are entitled to charge for, if he doesn’t like their terms, he can take his business elsewhere.
