You know, the way they’re whining it makes it sound like their belief system involves being able to get away with attacking people based on sexual orientation. If I were in a religion that promoted that, I really wouldn’t be drawing attention to it.
And I know Christianity isn’t about that at all, I’m just saying…
You guys are correct in that the hate filled diatribe some people seem to aspire to isn’t in the nature of what Christianity (granted, as I understand it.) is all about. The Bible says certain things are a sin. But every sin is on an equal basis. So whether you steal a cookie or rob a bank, both are sin. (In other words, when you get down to it, there is no gradient. No “less worse” sin.) Until a person can honestly say that they have NO sin, they are in no position to condemn anyone else.
However, I also don’t believe that people teaching what the Bible says should be muzzled on ANY topic within its pages. If the Bible says it, it says it. Don’t blame the messenger.
Except that this isn’t a case of people saying that something is a sin, it’s about people committing crimes against others because their lifestyles may differ.
I know these people may be afraid that their own religious freedoms may be stifled, but according to the article this law is written specifically not to prevent peaceful protests, etc., and they are exempt from the laws against discrimination in places like specifically religious schools and businesses.
These people have problems. It’s sad, but true that Christianity seems to draw in people who are sick in the head, and allow them to be considered a decent part of society as long as they say they are Christians. It’s the Salem Witch Trials all over again. Their claim is that Christians SHOULD be allowed to commit atrocities in the name of God, because they are purging evil from the world. Sadly their perceived notion of evil does not match up with the Bible. However, what they are proposing to do would indeed label them evil.

Heh, Christianity is hardly unique in that. Just look at some “Muslims” out there, and many of the Japanese in WWII were Shinto. Or then there are other groups that are not religion-based, such as many political groups (various communist groups seem to be really bad at this sort of thing, for example).

This is very true. Any group (and I mean ANY) that has a large following is bound to have some wackos. Look at Trekkies. and Star Wars fans. I swear, I have met a few people who would assault you, verbally and/or physically, if you said something against the mighty George Lucas. Or Captain Kirk.
Can someone explain to me which crimes are the love crimes?
I suppose, in theory, that would be any crime committed in the name of love. Practically most ‘love crimes’ have very little to do with love and have a lot more to do with jealousy, revenge, communication problems, desperation, etc.
