-Girl, 10, Tasered in her home
-She wouldn’t take a shower
-Mum gave permission

A US police officer used a Taser stun gun to subdue a “combative” 10-year-old girl in her own home because she refused to take a shower.

I couldn’t give a flying F*** who gave permission, even if it was her mother. I don’t for one second see any excuse for using a taser on this 10 year old girl. Presumably the police officer involved is a grown adult who’s had training in dealing with people in difficult situations.

I actually believe that tasers should be banned. They appear to be open to abusive use by police officers who see them as a convenient way to subdue people without getting their own clothes dirty.

Unless said kid was coming after the officer with a *knife*, I don’t see it being at all appropriate.

For one thing, tasers are usually rigged to handle a large adult male. Zapping someone with a third the body weight could very well be fatal. Additionally, even with said large adult males, there’s still a risk of permanent injury and death. They should ONLY be used when there is a threat of injury to an officer, and frankly, any officer who can’t bring down a ten year old girl needs to get a job working security in a mall.

Glad to see that the father is pissed off about it.

Her mother should no longer have custody if she asks her daughter to get tasered FOR NOT WANTING TO SHOWER. She’s ten it’s not like BO is a major problem anyway.

Amok, amok, amok, amok. mad

I agree with Robin and Obsidian.  No way should a recalcitrant child be subject to such treatment.  If the officer had done so to a yelping dog, he would be charged with animal cruelty, no matter how “brief” the contact was! (And what is a screaming ten year old but a child crying out for attention or in emotional pain.)

It makes me wonder just what else was going on in that home that the mother would think that was okay. shut eye

I hope the father sues their asses off, and rightly so!!

Yes.  There are hardly any young, small female persons around a mall he would have to deal with.

Young girls in a shopping mall?  I think that a taser might not be enough for that!
