I did something similar, with epsom salts, as a kid.. only to find out that the hard water of our town really interferes with crystal growth.

It ain’t an adventure til something goes wrong You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn’t move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn’t move and does, use the duct tape. If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
I did something like this long, long ago. It worked out okay for a little while, then some salt-resistant bacteria got into it and turned the thing into a green mess of ick.
