A CHURCH has rejected a couple’s request to hold a Halloween-themed wedding where they planned to wear costumes and have theme music from “The Addams Family” and “The Munsters.”

Lisa Panensky and Jim Nieves signed a contract 13 months ago to get married on Halloween at the Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County. The 17th-century church is mentioned in Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

Church officials have said no to the couple’s plans to wear costumes and include theme music from “The Addams Family” and “The Munsters.”

The Rev. Jeff Gargano said the church was unaware of the Halloween theme until recently.

The church has offered to refund their deposit. The couple say they may get married at home.

Sounds like a lot of fun to me! smile

That’s unfortunate… My cousin got married on Halloween and, while they didn’t wear costumes (in the traditional sense), they were all decked out in punk-goth finery.  The church didn’t mind a bit.

The wedding sounds like fun, though.  I hope they get to have it just as they imagine it.

That’s too bad.

And is there any cause why these two should not be married?

We told guests that goth/alternative clothing was welcome, and that we wanted people to feel comfortable in what they were wearing. smile

Looks like you guys had fun, Mouse. smile

A Halloween-themed wedding sounds like fun, too.  Pity that the church didn’t like the idea.

I wonder why they didn’t just move the wedding to somewhere nearby?

grin Do you object?  After all, you have none except for saying “I do” and possibly kissing the bride…
