If anyone has taken the time to look through the sites ... is it just an elaborate troll or are these people serious?

I seriously doubt that the second link is serious.  After all, it says such things as:

“One of their number, who called himself Grigori Efimovich, would later be known to the rest of the world as Christopher Columbus. Using an elaborate setup involving hundreds of mirrors and a few burlap sacks, he was able to create an illusion so convincing that it was actually believed he had sailed around the entire planet and landed in the West Indies. . .”

The first one, being a public forum, is a mix of whatever.

The Flat Earth Society has always been seriously tongue in cheek about their beliefs.  Undoubtedly some actually do believe it, but most of them seem to intend it as a (very subtle) satire on irrational beliefs.

There was another thread on this Forum a while back that discussed some of the aspects of Flat Earthism in the 21st Century.

There basic premise seems to be based on the assumption(s) that there is no such thing as gravity, and space is filled with an immaterial, yet resistant, ether. shut eye

The rest should make for an interesting read! cheese

Hmmm.  If it were made out of lots of little gold atoms suspended in space, would you then have an “ether or” situation?

Actually the Earth isn’t perfectly round. Its’ a bit wider at the Equator and slightly squashed in at the North and Sound Poles. So it has the same profile as a slightly under inflated soccer ball.

But I’ll still call it round anyway.
