As you guys might know I’m a bit of an old-school skater, and I was pleasantly surprised when Stacy Peralta made the documentary ‘Dogtown and Z-Boys’, which is basically about the “birth of vert.“
‘Vert’ as in vertical skating. The Venice skaters created a style that was closely related to surfing. The 1970s drought in the Los Angeles area left many swimming pools drained. The local kids skated the walls of the pools as if they were surfing waves, and eventually went above the coping and invented aerial skating (credits go to to skate legend Tony Alva). There would be no X-games as it wasn’t for that (my!) generation, thank you very much.

Now, I just watched the trailer for “Bunker77”, a documentary about surfer/playboy Bunker Spreckels, who was a close friend of Tony Alva,.
The trailer’s editing style and feel are clearly inspired by Stacy Peralta’s ‘Dogtown & Z-Boys’.
Surfer Takuji Masuda, who is on the thanks list of Dogtown & Z-Boys is linked to the project.
It is not mentioned anywhere on IMDB though.
It should be released somewhere this year but its hard to find any development news.
