TOKYO — When Yosuke the parrot flew out of his cage and got lost, he did exactly what he had been taught — recite his name and address to a stranger willing to help.

Police rescued the African grey parrot two weeks ago from a neighbor’s roof in the city of Nagareyama, near Tokyo. After spending a night at the station, he was transferred to a nearby veterinary hospital while police searched for clues, local policeman Shinjiro Uemura said.

He kept mum with the cops, but began chatting after a few days with the vet.

“I’m Mr. Yosuke Nakamura,” the bird told the veterinarian, according to Uemura. The parrot also provided his full home address, down to the street number, and even entertained the hospital staff by singing songs.

“We checked the address, and what do you know, a Nakamura family really lived there. So we told them we’ve found Yosuke,” Uemura said.

The Nakamura family told police they had been teaching the bird its name and address for about two years.

But Yosuke apparently wasn’t keen on opening up to police officials.

“I tried to be friendly and talked to him, but he completely ignored me,” Uemura said.

Smerk the cutest dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In Western Australi

Little Accipiter loved that girl enough
He told her jokes and crazy facts
And other forum stuff

Smerk the cutest dragon:
Traveled cross the sea,
To hunt her prey in foriegn lands,
And snuggle with Acci!

That has to be up there with memorising money serial numbers in case you lose them.
Was he planning on losing the bird?

Just saw the video and while he didn’t tell the camera his name and address, he did speak Japanese for ‘good evening’!  FuzzyButt doesn’t fly well because his primary flight feathers are very few, but he does try to fly to me in a kind of hover and does pretty well.  I’d be terrified if he ever got out!

I think they taught the bird to say his name, etc., in case he was ever lost or stolen.  If the bird was stolen, the thieves would have a hard time passing him off as not stolen while he was reciting his name and address.

silver, get him OUT of a cage!  the pooping in food bowls happens when a perch is directly above it, or the preferred perch is the bowl edge.  I don’t like cages except when there’s a need to transport or for temporary safety....then the poop goes everywhere else but seldom if ever into food HA!!!

Or, if the cage is poorly designed, the *only* perch is the food dish edge..

Because it’s not natural to birds to be in cages, that is the equivalent to human prisons which cause institutionalization and even insanity, self-mutilization and even early death.  Bird cages also foster infestations since a bird cannot get away from the messes they make as part of their natural character.  Birds and in particular parrots are one of the most social critters on Earth and they need to be bonded by touch and need to be feel part of the ‘flock’ which is you.  They need freedom climb and yes, that’s pretty cool that he/she likes rain!!!
