I have a tooth that I’ve been having root canal treatments on. It had a temporary filling in it, and was ok until this afternoon when half of the actual tooth broke off. Bits of the filling have been coming away all evening too.
I called my dentist and she said to come in tomorrow morning and wait, and she’ll treat me between appointments. I don’t know what she’s going to do with it, whether she can save it or if she’ll have to extract it, which will be difficult considering how little of it is left to get a grip on.
I’m so scared I feel sick.

Last time she extracted one of my back molars she was practically kneeling on my chest to get enough leverage. Apparently the tooth’s root was shaped like <>

You know she’ll be as gentle as possible.
That’s just what they want you to think!!.....Mainly because it’s true
With my first root canal I was sure they were going to have to just pull it, but they found enough to attach the crown to. I was pleasantly surprised. I also never had a series of work done. The oral surgeon did the canal in one 30-45 minute sitting, then I never went back to him. From that point on it was just the regular dentist for molds (almost worse pain than the toothache itself) and crown.
Matt has to go back at the beginning of next month to get more bionic teeth done.
He actually had a similar thing to Mouse, except that there hadn’t been a filling in the tooth - it just sort of disintegrated.
It can’t be as bad as me - I went a few weeks ago because I had toothache and got a telling-off for not having come for a checkup in a year and a half. I needed a cleaning, six fillings and the root canal.
If I go for my next root canal, and I very much need to, that will seriously eat into my vacation budget. I’ve been hoping to be able to put it off, but I’m not sure I can for much longer. Fortunately it hasn’t been hurting, but I know it will at any time.
